Alone at Last, Sonoran Desert, Arizona

Saguaro Cactus, Sonoran Desert, Arizona

The idyllic icon of the southwest desert, the Saguaro Cactus stands guard over the Sonoran Desert.  With an average height of 30 feet but some reaching upwards of 50 feet, the Saguaro Cactus can attain an age of 200 years.  The Saguaro's white flowers bloom at only at night and close the following morning.  If you look closely at some of the holes in the Saguaro, you might see a Gila Woodpecker or a Gilded Flicker making their home in the Saguaro Cactus.
